Debauchery, corruption, rising right-wing populism - Kander and Ebb's musical Cabaret is as relevant now as it was when it first opened in 1966, and a new revival at the Playhouse Theatre aims to make it an immersive experience, with the audience invited into the Kit Kat Club for drinks, dining and pre-show entertainments. Starring Oscar-winner Eddie Redmayne and Jessie Buckley as Sally Bowles, it's billed as 'the party at the end of the world'. Booking to April 2022.

The Russian jeweller Carl Fabergé created miniature masterpieces for the rich of pre-Revolutionary Russia, but Britain was also an important luxury market, and in 1903 he opened a London branch on New Bond Street. A major new exhibition at the Victoria & Albert Museum, entitled Fabergé in London: Romance to Revolution, focuses on this glittering period in Fabergé's career, and includes fabulous objets from both the Imperial Russian and British royal collections. Until 8 May 2022.

Freemasons' Hall in Covent Garden is one of London's grandest and most mysterious buildings, but this month it opens its doors for a series of Christmas concerts, lit by candlelight for added atmosphere. The concerts begin on 4 December with Handel's Messiah, followed by Carols by Candlelight on 11 December; Christmas with the English Chamber Choir follows on 18 December, and the series culminates with Vivaldi's Four Seasons and other favourite classics on 19 December.

Christmas past

Brought up in California, Dennis Severs fell in love with London at first sight, and in 1979 he bought a derelict house in Spitalfields, a once-grand enclave adjoining the City of London that had fallen on hard times. He transformed it into a place of magic and mystery, based on an imaginary family that had lived in the house since 1724, and today Dennis Severs' House is one of London's most atmospheric attractions, especially when it gets its annual Christmas makeover, with evening tours by candlelight.
