Midwestern magic
One of the great American musicals, Oklahoma! has been delighting audiences since it first opened in 1943. Reinvented and reorchestrated for our own time, Daniel Fish's new production won a Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical, and transfers to the Young Vic after an acclaimed run on Broadway and a US tour. Seventy-five years after Rodgers & Hammerstein reinvented the American musical, this new version is funny, sexy, provocative and probing, without changing a word of the text.
Hot property
First launched in 2004, the London Festival of Architecture has grown to become the world's largest annual architectural celebration, with talks, events and installations - as well as the popular Studio Lates on Friday evenings, when practices open their doors and show off their latest projects. Though this year's programme was yet to be finalised as we went to press, scheduled events include a symposium at the Royal Academy on 7 June and an open competition to redesign Notting Hill Gate.
Green dreams
Over the weekend of 11-12 June, over one hundred of London's private and public squares and green spaces open to visitors, many of them for the only time in the year. Several are an easy walk from The Beaumont, including lovely Bryanston and Montagu Squares in Marylebone, as well as Wilton Crescent Garden and Belgrave Square in Belgravia, but there are many more to explore. One of our favourites is Rosmead Garden, which featured in the 1999 film Notting Hill.
Top pop
Running across three weekends from 24 June to 10 July, the BST (British Summer Time) Hype Park festival brings the biggest stars in pop and rock to the leafy centre of London. This year's festival kicks off with the Rolling Stones, followed by The Eagles, Adele, Pearl Jam and Duran Duran. Best of all they're performing just a hop, skip and a jump from The Beaumont - though rest assured you won't be able to hear them from your room.
