Master crafters
London Craft Week, which this year runs from 9 to 15 May, celebrates hand-made craftsmanship at its highest level, with installations and events popping up right across the city. The Beaumont joins in the fun, in collaboration with the Italian fine-furniture company DeART, who created the brand-new hand-made cigar humidor in the Lobby. Visitors will be able to enjoy a display of their work, as well as a cigar-themed evening in the Lotos Room on 11 May.
Flash mob
Now in its seventh year, Photo London is Britain's largest international festival of photography, and returns to Somerset House for four days of exhibitions, talks and sales, from 12 to 15 May. Major galleries such as Magnum and Camera Work are joined by up-and-coming dealers from as far apart as Palm Beach and Cape Town, with vintage images on show alongside the latest new work. It's the perfect place to get a snapshot of the best photography now.
Cockney charm
One of the best-loved musicals in the canon, My Fair Lady returns to London for what is - amazingly - its first West End outing in 20 years. This new production of Lerner and Loewe's classic was nominated for ten Tony Awards during its New York run, and transfers to the opulent arena of the London Coliseum from 7 May. Theatrical legend Vanessa Redgrave plays Mrs Higgins, with Amara Okereke as Eliza Doolittle and Downton Abbey's Harry Haddon-Paton as Professor Higgins.
Blooming marvellous
After two years of pandemic-related disruption, the iconic Chelsea Flower Show returns to its original time and place, running from 24 to 28 May at the Royal Hospital in Chelsea. As always there'll be superb show gardens and dramatic floral displays, but in line with the times, this year's show has a new emphasis on wild plants and naturalistic planting, offering sustainable solutions through planet-friendly gardening. Plus plenty of old-fashioned glitz and glamour, of course.
